The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted industries to continuously adapt their activities and processes, a trend that persists amid significant economic, geopolitical, and technological shifts. According to the latest survey findings, technology has emerged as the primary driver of corporate transformation. Yet, nearly half of business leaders admit they’re not fully prepared to keep pace with technology’s rapid evolution. Meanwhile, accelerating the global transition to net-zero emissions is becoming increasingly critical. Despite external shocks and ongoing uncertainties, industries must take the lead in stepping up urgent climate and energy action. This industrial transformation isn’t just essential for ensuring businesses thrive and remain resilient in today’s complex, disruptive environment—it’s also vital for unlocking the potential of new global growth engines.

5. Investing in people

Influenced by factors such as geopolitical economics, technology, and the green transition, nearly one-quarter of jobs and 44% of job skills are expected to be disrupted over the next five years. This disruptive trend will lead to a shifting balance between certain jobs and skills, necessitating coordinated efforts from policymakers, employers, and employees alike. To navigate this evolving landscape and fully capitalize on the net employment opportunities created by technological advancements, innovative approaches in corporate management and public policy will be essential for fostering the localization of green industries and supply chains. Amidst the rapidly changing employment dynamics, equipping workers with retraining and upskilling programs is critical—requiring the active involvement of all stakeholders and the development of cohesive strategies to address the ever-evolving demands for skills and the global talent pool.

6. The Interconnectedness of Climate, Nature, and Energy

The risks posed by climate change to ecosystems and people's livelihoods are becoming increasingly evident, yet there remains a need to further clarify the obstacles that must be overcome to take the necessary action. While progress has already been made in transitioning to cleaner energy sources, experts emphasize that countries will require significantly more investment and decisive action if they hope to meet their respective climate targets. Emerging markets, in particular, which are among the regions most vulnerable to climate change, face a staggering $2.2 trillion investment gap in their energy transitions—and urgently need fast, effective financing solutions. Although geopolitical dynamics have complicated efforts toward decarbonization, recent agreements between China and the U.S. signal a shared commitment to achieving common climate goals. Against this backdrop, global leaders must adopt a comprehensive, systematic approach, deploying the right policies and technological tools to build a carbon-neutral, nature-positive world for future generations.
