The World Economic Forum will hold its 15th Annual Meeting of the New Champions from June 25 to 27 in Dalian, China. During the event, around 1,600 global leaders from business, government, civil society, international organizations, and academia will come together to foster collaborative partnerships and drive innovative, impactful solutions that support the recovery of the global economy.

This year's annual conference is themed "New Frontiers for Future Growth," aiming to collectively address the challenges and seize the opportunities presented by an ever-evolving global landscape. Attendees will engage in high-level discussions and workshops, fostering collaboration and exploring innovative pathways to growth. As Asia continues to drive two-thirds of global economic expansion, the event will also provide timely insights into the latest developments shaping China’s—and the broader Asian region’s—economic outlook.

"Facing unprecedented global challenges, the power of collaboration and innovation cannot be overlooked," said Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum. "The Annual Meeting of the New Champions provides a rare platform for global leaders to come together, share insights, and advance forward-thinking solutions—ultimately shaping the future of the global economy."

"This year's annual conference is themed 'New Frontiers for Future Growth,' aiming to bring together global leaders from politics, business, academia, media, and other sectors. By fostering open dialogue, uniting collaborative efforts, and building shared consensus on development, we will collectively explore fresh drivers and innovative pathways for global economic growth," said Pan Jiang, Director-General of the Department of International Affairs at China’s National Development and Reform Commission. "We look forward to the conference showcasing China’s remarkable achievements in economic and social development to the international community, demonstrating our proactive commitment to high-level opening-up, and sharing the promising opportunities arising from China’s path to modernization with the world."

This year's conference agenda will revolve around six key thematic pillars:

1. The Global New Economy:The global economy is projected to grow by 3.1% in 2024, signaling that the world is moving toward a new normal—far from the growth patterns of the past. Governments worldwide are increasingly focusing on advancing technology and nurturing green industries to maintain their competitive edge. However, geopolitical economic rivalries continue to hinder trade expansion. This year’s annual meeting will explore how global leaders can manage inflation through coordinated monetary policies while fostering sustainable and inclusive growth.

2. China and the World:Despite facing structural challenges, China is expected to contribute more than a quarter to global economic growth in 2024. The clean energy sector and R&D investments are two key drivers propelling this momentum. This year’s conference will explore how to unlock China’s potential to foster global growth while fostering collaboration amid an increasingly tense geopolitical landscape.

3. Entrepreneurship in the Age of Artificial Intelligence:Generative AI has sparked an investment boom, with commercial investments in generative AI potentially reaching as high as $200 billion by 2025. As cutting-edge fields like biotechnology and quantum computing continue to advance rapidly, startups are at the forefront of driving this wave of growth. This year’s conference will focus on how global leaders can anticipate and effectively harness the transformative power of emerging technologies.

4. The New Frontier of Industry:Technology has become a key driver of transformation in the post-pandemic era, yet most people are still not fully prepared to keep pace with its rapid evolution. At the same time, accelerating the economy toward a net-zero transition is critical, calling for urgent action across industries. This year’s conference will explore industry-specific transformation strategies, helping to unlock new sources of global growth.

5. Investing in people:Influenced by factors such as geopolitical economics, technology, and the green transition, nearly a quarter of jobs and 44% of job skills are expected to be disrupted over the next five years. Addressing this disruptive landscape will require collaborative efforts to help workers retrain and upskill effectively. This year’s conference will explore innovative strategies to manage evolving skill demands and strengthen workforce resilience.

6. The Interconnectedness of Climate, Nature, and Energy:Climate change poses significant risks, making it urgently necessary to mobilize rapid and effective financing in the clean energy sector—especially since emerging markets still face a $2.2 trillion investment gap. This year’s annual meeting will adopt a holistic approach to building a carbon-neutral, nature-positive world.

"Technological advancement is the key driver of economic growth," said Chen Liming, Chairman of the World Economic Forum for Greater China. "Asia is the global engine of growth, and China continues to be the largest contributor to that growth. Hosting this conference here presents an excellent opportunity to jointly unlock innovation potential and lay the foundation for sustainable economic momentum—not just in Asia, but across the globe."

More than 100 high-level government officials from around 30 countries and regions will attend this year’s annual conference. Ten global leaders from politics, the private sector, and international organizations will serve as co-chairs of the event: Yiting Chen, Group Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited; Hak Cheol Shin, CEO of LG Chem; André Hoffmann, Chairman of Massellaz and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors at Roche Group; Paula Ingabire, Minister of Information, Communications Technology, and Innovation of Rwanda; Minfang Lu, Vice Chairman of Mengniu Group; Busi Mabuza, Chairperson of the South African Industrial Development Corporation; Amina Mohammed, UN Deputy Secretary-General; Rafizi Ramli, Malaysian Minister of Economy; Paul Simpson, Founder and CEO of Cornerstone United Holdings; and Shugang Wen, Chairman of China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd.

"Dalian will enhance the forum's impact through openness and inclusivity, amplify its ripple effects via robust economic and trade interactions, highlight its unique contemporary identity by leveraging technology, drive green transformation by promoting energy efficiency and carbon reduction, foster deeper cultural exchanges as a bridge for people-to-people connections, and showcase the city’s high-quality services to reflect its refined urban ethos. We are fully committed to hosting a vibrant and unforgettable international event," said Chen Shaowang, Mayor of Dalian. "Dalian extends a warm invitation to friends from home and abroad to join us at the Summer Davos!"
