Following the 2023 UN Midterm Progress Assessment of the Sustainable Development Goals, the UN’s *2024 Sustainable Development Goals Report* reveals a sobering reality: only 17% of the targets are on track to be achieved by 2030.

Entrepreneurs have tremendous potential to accelerate progress toward these goals. Low-income, middle-income, and high-income economies can take action by effectively leveraging entrepreneurs to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

In low-income economies, offering tax breaks and incentives to green and social enterprises can help reduce financial risks for lending institutions. Meanwhile, in rural areas, increasing investments in critical infrastructure such as energy and transportation can lay the groundwork for the success of sustainable business activities.

Middle-income economies can provide entrepreneurs with greater R&D support aimed at sustainability, as well as implement mandatory environmental and social responsibility policies that require companies to submit sustainability reports. Additionally, they can encourage local procurement practices to cut down on transportation emissions while boosting the local economy.

High-income economies can set a positive global example for sustainable development by promoting sustainable consumption and production. Setting ambitious carbon reduction targets and allocating resources toward green infrastructure—such as renewable energy systems, sustainable public transportation, and eco-friendly buildings—not only helps protect the environment but also fosters the creation of new jobs.

Policy makers should prioritize fostering a sustainability-focused mindset at every stage of an entrepreneur’s journey, while also establishing mechanisms to deliver locally tailored, innovative solutions that address region-specific sustainable development challenges. This approach not only revitalizes economies and communities but also accelerates the sustainability transformation of large enterprises.
